How to Create Your Own Rug Using the Stanton Carpet Custom Rug Visualizer Tool

The Stanton Carpet rug visualizer tool is extremely user-friendly and takes the stress out of making a custom rug decision.

Here are the five steps to follow.

Step 1: Select Carpet Style and Color

In the first step, you select the style and color of carpet you'd like for your rug. If you already know the style and color name, you can simply enter it. 

If you prefer to browse and be inspired by what's available, we recommend that you open a second browser window for searching through carpet products. 

Once you've selected a carpet style and color, it will populate the Custom Rug Visualizer window as you see in the image below.

Step 2: Select How You Want Your Rug Finished 

Next, you select how you want to finish your rug. The options include:

• Standard tape binding. This is a synthetic or cotton tape sewn around the edge of the rug and shows approximately 1/4" on the face. 
• Hand serging. This is where the serging of the rug is completed by hand. Normally hand serging shows less of the yarn on the face of the rug. Hand serging takes approximately 5 weeks fabrication time if the material is in stock and the order is placed.
• Machine serging consists of an edge that forms a continuous wrap of yarn around the edges of the rug.
• Modern edge is a discreet and low profile serged edge with a sleek look. This is a great alternative to hand serging.
• Binding options include fabrics of various widths, compositions, and patterns that frame the perimeter of the rug. 

For all of these finish choices, you get to choose whether to match the prominent background color, the prominent accent color, or another color.

The Stanton Carpet Create A Rug tool offers visual references, so you understand better what these finish options look like.

The two bottom options represent binding options:

• Mitered Corner Top Stitch - This sample shows a mitered corner. The corners are fabricated to resemble the corner of a picture frame with a top (visible) stitch.
• Folded Corner Top Stitch - This sample shows a folded corner. These corners are also known as lapped corners. The finishing material is folded over at the corners with a top (visible) stitch.

Step 3: Select the Quantity and Size of Your Rugs 

Once you've completed those decisions, you get to specify the dimensions of the rug (width and length) and the quantity.

Note that you can opt for a Quarter Turn the pattern orientation, which may reduce waste and cost.

Step 4: What Kind of Backing Do You Want For Your Rug? 

The last decision to make is what kind of backing you want for your rug. The options include:

• Non-skid padding provides increased comfort underfoot, hides any fabrication on the back of the rug, protects a wood floor from abrasion, extends the life and stability of the rug and also serves the purpose of keeping the rug in place (indoor use only).
• Felt backing provides increased comfort underfoot, hides any fabrication on the back of the rug, and protects a wood floor from abrasion (indoor use only).
• An outdoor-friendly cushion provides increased comfort underfoot, hides any fabrication on the back of the rug, and extends the life and stability of the rug.
• No attached backing

As with the finish options, the Stanton Carpet tool offers a visual reference as you see in the image below.

Step 5: Save the Rug You've Created

When you've completed all of the steps above, the tool offers you space for comments or special instructions. 

Then, you save your rug.

Congratulations! You've Just Created Your Own Custom Rug! 

Once you save your rug, you're taken to a summary page where you can print the page or email yourself the information. You are now ready to take your creation to the next level by forwarding or sharing a copy of your Rug Quote with your flooring retailer. This is a resource that Floor Decor Design Center customers enjoy using.
