Introducing Stephanie Mazzula, FLOOR DECOR'S DESIGNER IN Middletown, CONNECTICUT
FDDC: Stephanie, tell us about yourself and your background.
SM: As a child I moved a lot throughout New England. I have always enjoyed the beauty of the seasons that we are so lucky to experience. The colors changing seasonally inspiring me with thoughts of color and how to play off of nature with my art.
Growing up, my Mom always encouraged me to try different forms of art to express myself.
FDDC: How did you get started in design?
SM: In high school, I thought I should go to school to be an art teacher. I loved the idea of working with children and exposing them to all different styles and ways to make art. However, I soon realized this was not the right path for me. I wanted to Design!
So I went back to school, at Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut, graduating with high honors with a BFA in Interior Design.
That's where I learned not only about how to stylize spaces but also about architecture. All of our designs started from the ground up, so we would understand how to develop blue prints. Most of the teachers were architects, this was a huge advantage because not only were they teachers, but they worked on job sites with contractors and developers on a daily basis.
In this environment my love for art continued evolved into ways to stylize spaces and I eventually launched Houses Into Homes.
FDDC: Stephanie, what do you like most about interior design?
SM: Interior Design is the perfect way to express my gift of art while creating individual spaces that people have been envisioning but been unable to create themselves.
I truly enjoy being able to read people’s needs and then develop that into stylized spaces. I use a process that allows for an organized plan that my clients can visually understand.
That process includes designing floor plans and furniture layouts, as well as developing professional boards to show the visual concept of the spaces.
FDDC: What are some of your favorite design installations?
SM: It's hard to say that I have favorite projects because really my favorite part of design is how I leave my clients feeling -- which is happy and feeling like they now have a personalized space designed especially for them.FDDC: Which are your favorite Floor Décor Design Center products?
SM: Provenza hardwood because it has such beautiful variation in colors and the finishes. I was immediately drawn to this product line :)
That is why we have it up front in the Middletown location.
FDDC: What are some design trends specific to your Connecticut customers?
SM: I would have to say that the blue and white nautical theme, seems to be a strong shoreline Connecticut-related beach style, although a lot of people do enjoy this style.
Ultimately, it is important to design for the home you are living in. :)
FDDC: How do you help customers with their design projects?
SM: As a designer I have the ability to organize people's needs and then develop that into stylized spaces.
The process I use includes floor plans and furniture layouts, and professional boards. These all help to show how visual concepts come to life.
FDDC: How do you help them with flooring product selection?
SM: This is done as we go through designing floor plans, furniture layouts, and professional boards that show the visual concept of the spaces. As I mentioned, this process allows for an organized plan that the client can visually understand.FDDC: What tips do you have for clients just getting started with their remodel project?
